A family-friendly festival of music, dance, art, and education. 4 days, 4 stages, and over 50 bands in beautiful, green Chatham County!
Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems. -Rainer Maria Rilke
There is something so wonderful about spring’s return. We remember what it’s like to breathe in the warm scents of nature being reborn, to open the door and run out into it, and to take our shoes off and dance in the grass. Our festival itself is like a child that knows poems, an embodiment of Rilke’s spring: growing, learning, carefree, and beautiful. It is a place for poems, for music, for making friends, for adventure…
Share with us your poems and your adventures when you come out to Shakori Hills! The Spring GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance is sure to be as warm and friendly as ever with lots to offer all who attend. There will be music on four stages for all four days; yummy tastes from the food vendors; young and older kids’ activities, shows, and events; a parade; local, creative craft vendors; healing arts classes and practitioners; and opportunities to hear new ideas as well as to share them with those around you.
Return with the spring, create your poem, dance in the grass, blow bubbles, teach a child to play guitar, celebrate the earth, and experience your festival this spring!
What else happens at Shakori Hills?
- The festival has a solar project in the works! Our goal is to make all operations on the site solar-powered. We are doing this with the help of The Abundance Foundation as well as YOU, our festival attendees! Solar cells are available in our Grassroots Store, a cell goes for $10. By contributing to our solar fund, you become part of the festival itself. Thanks so much for all the time and money that has already been donated! We have a long way to go, but we are very excited about how far we’ve come! Find out more at www.shakorihills.org/solarize-shakori-project.
- Shakori Hills has a wonderful program called Hopes & Dreams! Each festival, some of the artists involved visit surrounding schools in Chatham, Orange, and Durham counties for performances, workshops, and the like. This past fall, the participating artists were the Firehouse Rhythm Kings and Midtown Dickens. Shakori Hills values highly the importance of music and art in education and we want to make the festival home to the next generation of hopers and dreamers!
- We also rent out the site to area non-profits, organizations, and individuals. If you are interested in finding out more about this, click here!
- You may have heard about our efforts to own the land we call Shakori Hills. Owning the land will make it easier to make improvements and to claim it as “our own.” Ours, meaning yours, everyone’s. If you have an interest in helping us with this endeavor, please feel free to write shakorihills@grassrootsfest.org or call us at 919-542-1746.
